What exactly is resin bound stone?+
Small natural stones - gravel, quartz or granite, all graded to size - are stirred into a clear, UV-stable binder and laid by hand over a prepared base. Every stone ends up fixed to the ones around it, which is why the finished surface is solid and level yet still lets water through, with no loose grit. It is what our resin driveways, paths and patios across Lincoln are made from.
Is it just another word for a resin driveway?+
A driveway is only one use for it. The same material also makes footpaths, patios, pool surrounds and commercial areas, so while every resin driveway we build is resin bound stone, the stone itself does a good deal more than driveways.
How does it differ from resin bonded?+
They are laid the opposite way round. Resin bound has the stone mixed into the binder first, so the top comes out smooth and drains. Resin bonded scatters dry aggregate across wet resin, so the surface stays coarse and sealed and keeps losing grit as the years pass. For a Lincoln home, bound is nearly always the sensible pick.
Will it stand up to Lincoln winters?+
It does, as long as it is laid right. The county stays fairly dry, but the frosts are sharp, and frost damage comes from water sitting in a surface and freezing. A permeable finish drains before that can happen, provided the base beneath it is free-draining and deep enough - so it holds up well through a Lincolnshire winter.
Will I need planning permission?+
Almost never. A permeable surface like this counts as permitted development no matter how big it is, so there is normally nothing to submit. The exceptions are an impermeable surface bigger than five square metres that sheds water onto the road, or a home that is listed or sits in a conservation area.

Laid properly, expect 20 to 25 years and often longer. What decides it is the standard of the binder and stone and, just as much, the sub-base under them. Get both right and it keeps its level and its colour for the long haul, with no more than the occasional clean.
